A regional youth football competition in Alagoas state, Brazil, featuring under-23 teams. It serves as a key platform for emerging talents from local clubs to compete for the title and pathways to national leagues within Brazil's robust youth development system.

History and foundation

Launched in the early 2010s by the Alagoas Football Federation (FFAL), the Alagoano U-23 League aimed to nurture young players. CSA claimed the inaugural 2012 title and dominated early editions. A 2018 match-fixing scandal led to stricter oversight. Notably, players like Vítinho, who reached Série A, emerged from here. The league adapted during the 2020 pandemic with a shortened format and rebounded in 2022 with 10 teams.

Tournament format

Held annually from January to April, it features 8-12 Alagoas-based teams in a round-robin format. Top two advance to the final; playoff losers contest 3rd-6th places. Games occur at venues like Estádio Rei Pelé in Maceió, capacity 20,000. A play-in round for newcomers was added in 2023.

Interesting facts
